No Beavers Were Harmed While Writing This Post

So, there’s this cool little thing here in lakeside every year, the Lester River Rendezvous.

It is named after this river. Funnily enough, it's called the Lester River.

I am about this close (see, I’m holding my fingers a millimeter apart) to being a re-enactor type geek myself so I really dig this sort of thing. I’m a history geek and a costuming buff but I’ve never been able to settle on a time period. Also, I’m too busy to travel all around doing it and the paraphernalia involved can be quite spendy.

So, I’m a stalker of re-enactors and let me tell you, this guy rocked! He was a font of information, he brought it all alive, and he appealed to all ages.

He almost talked me into firing his flintlock but I actually backed out because I am a klutz. I have certain unwritten rules (which are now written) about my klutz-dom. 1) No bungee jumping 2) No sky diving 3) No flint lock rifles

My daughter was interested in re-enacting hip hop voyageurs.

There was a blacksmith

A shoemaker

Friends just chillin'

And the centerfold spread from Better Homes and Teepees.

The best thing though? Lester River Park is right next to Lester River Golf Course and all festival long, the fine folks were blasting off some serious cannon fire. Each time I almost crapped my pants and my ear drums began bleeding, but all I could do was wrap myself in the warm thought of some precious white guy trying to putt when that baby went off...

The canoe was cool as well. I can't imagine flipping it back over after it tips...

Onto other things:

The Department of Homeland Security has deemed me to be non-threatening.

Let's have a caption contest!

"I'm here from the Government, I want to help."

"Bond, James Bond"

"If I look like my photo, please call a doctor"

Our entire family is now passported (kind of like teleported but the trip takes a hell of a lot longer). We're planning a trip to Toronto next year so we wanted to make sure we got all official before hand.

And last but not least, I spent the rest of today getting ready for next Saturday as we have our day of crafting at Kelly J's Quilt Shop. My Charitable Crafters group will be making stockings and stocking stuffers for our "Stuff a Stocking" project.

It's a free day with free fabric, free yarn, free patterns, and free tasty treats. Kelly J's will also give discounts on fabric purchased for the project.

I will also combine some donated books

With some donated fleece

to make a couple free prizes.
There will also be a prize for knitters

That's over 1600 yards of WoolPak. Enough for a sweater and it felts great too.

So, if you're interested, stop by Kelly J's next Saturday from 10-3 and we'll quilt and sew and knit and crochet and have a fun ole time.

But, tomorrow? I'll be snuggled down with these

Cuz it's my birthday and I'll read if I want to...

I was so surprised that the sun was shining on the day of this event that I almost forgot to go! Glad I did, though--mostly, I'm all about scoring handmade soap...

Happy B-Day!

Did you notice the hulking police presence? That was quite the paddy wagon with its telescopic antennae and hydraulic levelers. Its good to see my tax money being spent so wisely ;^(

"Its for your own good, Comrade Citizen. Move along."
