Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation

I've discussed generational differences before but I find it resurfacing in my mind as I desperately fight the urge to slap the ever lovin' shit out of the entire baby boom generation.

Congratulations! You've reached retirement age, now you get your mandatory slap. A slap for being the most self centered, naval gazing, entitled group of people that seems to have the idea that it is the job of every single person outside your generation to bow down and kiss your ass.

Now, my husband is technically at the very tail end of the baby boomer generation but he also has something else going for him. He is from the planet Whatthefuckareyoutalkingabout. If it doesn't happen in World of Warcraft, he doesn't get it.

Funnily enough, I am at the very beginning of Generation X. Let me just say that I don't seem to fit in there either. How do I know this? Many times, I only use one ear bud on my I-Pod because I realize that there are still circumstances in which you need to engage in your surroundings.

But back to the Baby Boomers.

Now, I know that there are other boomers that are like my husband. They don't fit into the mold. Yeah, and I don't care about them because I'm making broad stereotypical statements that are ALWAYS right. So shut up.

Who I am talking about are the boomers that can't seem to realize that no one aside from historians, care that they marched on Washington. We don't care that you saw Elvis live. We don't care that your music shaped a generation. We don't care that you conceived your twins Moonbeam and Sunshine in the muck and mud of Woodstock.

You are trying to convince me that your past is relevant to today. You are trying to convince me that if it weren't for you, things would be much different.

Well, let's look at the facts...we're in an ill advised war with no foreseeable end. We are in love with fossil fuels and many of you earth children are in love with your gas guzzlers. We have an abysmal voter turn out in this country. We place more of an emphasis on building sports arenas than on educating young children. We have the highest incarceration rate IN THE WORLD. Need I go on?

So here's how I see it. You may have had relevance forty years ago. Aside from that? I would call it mob mentality. You get what you want because you're the biggest not because you're the best.

And here's another observation. It is now 2008. We are involved in the world that apparantly you helped to shape. Can I make this suggestion?

Sit the hell down.
