Arise Ye Bunnies!

My neighborhood has a plethora of rabbits. Peter, Mopsy, Flopsy, and Cottontail have all gotten REALLY busy over the years and there's always that day in spring when I look around and say "Daaayyyuummm! That is a shit ton of bunnies!"

This morning was that moment. It was five o'clock in the blessed a.m when I took the dogs for a walk (or should I say "When the dogs took me for a drag") and the zombie bunny hoards made their appearance. Thankfully at that hour, not too many people are out to hear me screeching "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP! STOP! STOP!" With one dog that would be perfect on a fox hunt and the other dog in need of a helmet and a drool bib, I often find myself pulled in opposite directions as one chases a rabbit and the other chases a fire hydrant.

Note to dog: the fire hydrant will always win.

Kirby is my bunny dog. The funny thing is that when he gets all in high dudgeon and is lunging on the leash, he ends up stopping suddenly in mid-freak and having to poo. It almost comes across as some sort of ultra marking type episode but frankly I think he just can't handle the excitement.

If you listen closely, you can hear the narration in his head as he walks along the bunny trail...

Dum de dum de dum, hey look a fire hydrant...why is Shuggie chasing it?
Dum de dum de dum, hey look a leaf...why is Shuggie chasing it?
Dum de dum de dum, OH MY GOD!!! WHAT IS THAT!!! IT'S A BUNNY! GOTTA GET IT! GOTTA GET IT! GOTTA GET IT! GOTTA LUNGE! LUNGE! GOTTA BARK MYSELF HOARSE! GOTTA...GOTTA...oops...gotta poop...

Two minutes later, repeat scenario.

Continue in this manner for six blocks.

By the time I got the dogs home and had poured their food, they were both sound asleep.

I only wish I could join them.

Oh man...Billy actually CAUGHT a bunny once. The poor thing got stuck in our yard. Billy thinks hes "playing", as the rabbit is SHRIEKING, I am crying, and Maz is wigging out. Not pretty. Rabbits are LOUD when they are "being played with!"
