So here's the deal.
I feel kinda icky about this and not sure if it's the right thing to do but here it goes...I'm sure I will receive derision from SOMEONE for doing it.
By the way? Mamma always said, if you can't say something nice, shut the hell up.
Mamma was never the warm fuzzy type, in case you're interested.
A very good friend of mine who totally understands the healing power of summer camp has offered to do something wonderful for my son. She has offered a chunk of money to help send him to a camp of his choice.
You have to understand, my son is the most amazing son you will ever meet. You think your son is special? Well, I challenge you to a son-off!
Anyway, through the nightmare of the past few months, he has put up with the trauma of seeing his family torn apart, the psychological tension of discovering that his father is a pedophile, the questioning of his own abilities to overcome his childhood and go on to be a good father in his own right some day, the fact that he lives with two women who are going through their own dark journeys, and the always present possibility that he will ask a question of me as simple as "What's for dinner mom?" and I will burst into tears.
In other words, he has been the child shunted off to the side. Yes, he has been to see a therapist but not nearly as intensively as his sister or mother. Yes, we talk about deeper shit than any mother and 15 year old son should have to discuss. And yes, through all of this crap, he has maintained his positive disposition and his 10 year academic record of straight A's.
But he needs his time as well. Since my brother also has helped us out recently and I will be putting a little of that toward the camp, we are only $300 short.
If anyone is so inclined, please note a paypal donation button on the side of this blog. If you would rather make a donation out directly to the camp, I can give you the address or their telephone number. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to call the camp directly and make a donation to his account. I just don't want to give the impression that I'm asking for donations and using the money for nefarious purposes. I am a naturally suspicious person and my first thought would probably be "Yeah, and how many bottles of vodka is she buying with my money????"
Since there are creepy people on the internet, I will be happy to answer any questions about what camp and the address on a one to one basis. Just leave your email address in the comments and I'll be in contact with you.
Thus ends this info-mercial. Now, back to our regular programming.
